In a pivotal meeting at the Pentagon, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III reaffirmed unwavering U.S. support for Ukraine amidst intensifying conflict with Russia. Hosting Ukraine's Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, Secretary Austin highlighted the critical role of international partnership in bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities.

The dialogue underscored the profound challenges Ukraine faces as it confronts ongoing attacks from Russian forces under President Putin's aggressive policies. Secretary Austin commended Ukraine's resilience and military prowess in defending against these assaults, emphasizing the United States' commitment to stand firmly beside its allies.

"Ukraine is not alone," Secretary Austin asserted, reflecting on the collaborative efforts of over 50 allied nations to bolster Ukraine's defenses against current and future threats from Russia.

Central to this support is a substantial new security assistance package exceeding $2.3 billion, aimed at supplying essential air defense systems, anti-tank weaponry, and critical munitions from U.S. stockpiles.

Moreover, the United States plans an expedited delivery schedule for advanced air defense interceptors, including Patriot and NASAMS systems, through re-sequencing foreign military sales—a move poised to enhance Ukraine's defensive capabilities swiftly.

Looking ahead to the NATO summit, Secretary Austin affirmed the U.S. commitment to facilitating Ukraine's path to NATO membership. Recent milestones, such as the signing of a bilateral security agreement between Presidents Zelenskyy and Biden, underscored this dedication to strengthening Ukraine's strategic position and ensuring its long-term security.

Minister Umerov expressed gratitude for the robust support from the United States and its allies, underscoring how this assistance has been pivotal in repelling Russian aggression and safeguarding Ukraine's sovereignty. He emphasized Ukraine's aspirations for NATO membership, anticipating continued discussions on bolstering defense capabilities and forging a resilient force capable of deterring future Russian aggression.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual partnership and shared objectives in advancing regional stability and security. Secretary Austin expressed optimism about the discussions ahead, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration and strategic planning to address evolving security challenges in the region.

The Pentagon meeting served as a testament to the enduring alliance between the United States and Ukraine, marked by a steadfast commitment to upholding democratic values and collective security in the face of escalating geopolitical tensions.
