First-Ever Recorded Eruption of Krasheninnikov Volcano in Kamchatka

Krasheninnikov volcano in Kamchatka, Russia, erupted for the first time in recorded history at 16:50 UTC on August 2, 2025.

Initial ash plumes reached 3–4 km above sea level, later rising to 5–6 km.

Ashfall has impacted areas of Kronotsky Nature Park, with satellite data showing the plume drifting 75 km eastward. While the last known lava effusion dates back to around 1463, no historical eruptions had been confirmed until now.
