Biden-Harris Administration Takes New Steps to Combat Islamophobia and Anti-Arab Hate

The Biden-Harris Administration has intensified efforts to counter hate and violence against Muslim and Arab communities. Over the past year, these communities, including Palestinian Americans, have faced a disturbing rise in hate-fueled attacks, ranging from physical assaults to workplace discrimination. President Biden and Vice President Harris have repeatedly condemned these acts and are working to bring about lasting change through a broad initiative aimed at countering all forms of hate, ensuring equal justice, and promoting safety for all Americans.

Biden-Harris against Islamophobia in the USA

As part of this effort, the administration is launching a National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia and Hatred Against Arabs. Key actions include improving security for vulnerable communities, addressing daily discrimination concerns, and tackling issues related to travel. Highlights of the administration's steps include:

  • An unclassified assessment by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the FBI, and the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) on violent threats facing Muslim and Arab communities in the U.S.

  • Over $100 million in Department of Justice (DOJ) grants to combat hate crimes, including $30 million announced last month.

  • Continued prosecution of hate crimes targeting Muslim communities, such as a federal case involving the destruction of religious artifacts at Rutgers University.

  • The distribution of $210 million through the DHS Nonprofit Security Grant Program to protect faith-based institutions and nonprofits from targeted attacks.

In addition to these security measures, the administration is tackling workplace discrimination and bias in schools and housing. Federal agencies like the Department of Labor and the Department of Education have issued guidance and resources to address these issues, while the Department of Transportation has introduced measures to protect travelers from religious and ethnic discrimination.

Through a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach, the Biden-Harris Administration is committed to ensuring that Muslim and Arab Americans are free from hate and violence, while promoting equal opportunities and security for all.
