Record-Breaking Summer Brings Unprecedented Heat and Devastation
This summer has shattered records, but not in a positive light.
According to NOAA, June was the warmest June ever recorded, setting the stage for a series of extreme weather events. July continued this trend with a series of record-breaking heat waves across the continental US. Notably, July 22 emerged as the hottest day on record, based on preliminary NASA analysis of global daily temperature data. Additionally, July 21 and 23 also exceeded previous daily temperature records set in July 2023.
The summer’s challenges were compounded by Hurricane Debby, which has inflicted an estimated $28 billion in damage. With months still remaining in the hurricane season, the full impact of this summer’s extreme weather remains uncertain.
