During her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed pressing global issues, domestic challenges, and her vision for the future, offering a candid and passionate perspective.

On the Israel-Hamas Conflict

Colbert opened the discussion by asking about the October 7 attack and Israel's response. Vice President emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and a hostage deal, stating, "This war has got to end. We cannot lose some belief in the possibility of it." She acknowledged the complexity of the situation, noting that while progress has been made in negotiations, "it is meaningless unless a deal is actually reached."

Harris highlighted the profound pain and suffering on both sides, recalling her meetings with families of hostages and innocent victims in Gaza. "We must work and not lose hope," she asserted, stressing the U.S. role in seeking a resolution.

Criticism of Trump's Foreign Policy

When Colbert raised the topic of Donald Trump’s foreign relations, Vice President did not hold back. She described Trump’s admiration for authoritarian leaders as dangerous, asserting, "He gets played by these guys." She underscored the importance of standing strong with allies like NATO and supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Vice President expressed her outrage over reports that Trump had sent COVID-19 test kits to Putin, questioning the priorities of a leader who would aid a dictator while Americans faced dire shortages.

"What about the American people? They should be your first friend," she challenged.

Reflections on Leadership and the Campaign

Touching on climate crises, Vice President Harris urged citizens to heed local officials and combat misinformation, criticizing politicians who exploit disasters for political gain. Regarding her campaign, she reflected on its whirlwind pace, emphasizing that the American people are ready to "turn the page" from Trump’s leadership.

When Colbert complimented her debate performance, she humorously referred to a well-known image of her resting her chin on her hand, suggesting a playful frustration with the debate format.

Vision for America

Harris articulated her commitment to an equitable economy, advocating for fair taxation where teachers and firefighters are not taxed at higher rates than billionaires. She shared her vision for expanding homeownership opportunities, drawing on her own middle-class background.

In a lighter moment, she and Colbert shared a beer, showcasing a more personable side. She reflected on her mother’s teachings about fighting for one’s beliefs, emphasizing the values of perseverance and empathy that guide her campaign.

Final Thoughts on Trump and Bipartisanship

Concluding the interview, Vice President Harris addressed Trump’s past electoral defeats, humorously labeling him a "loser." She expressed pride in receiving support from Republicans who prioritize the country over party loyalty, particularly in the wake of the January 6 Capitol riot.

As she wrapped up, her message was clear: the country must not regress, and together, there is hope for a brighter future.

The new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs tonight at 11:35 PM ET on CBS.
