The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced Thursday that it is temporarily prohibiting drone flights over 22 utility locations in New Jersey for a 30-day period. This decision follows rising public concern and was made at the request of federal security agencies as a precautionary measure.
The FAA's action comes shortly after it imposed similar restrictions on drone flights over two sites in New Jersey in November. The expanded ban underscores heightened security measures around critical infrastructure.
The agency stated that the move was made "in an abundance of caution" to address potential safety and security risks. The temporary restrictions aim to safeguard utility sites from unauthorized drone activity, which could pose threats to public safety and operational integrity.
